Leave your legos behind and get a real job!

What is the difference between doctrine and teachings? When I think of doctrine I think of the frameworks that support my faith and with in that is the commandments and teachings that I am to abide by. When I think about teachings I think that they are educational lessons that root my morals and uphold the context of my faith. Both words are similar. Here is what dictionary.com says.

Doctrine-
1 a particular principle, position, or policy taught or advocated, as of a religion or government

2. something that is taught; teachings collectively

3. a body or system of teachings relating to a particular subject

Teachings-
1. the act or profession of a person who teaches.

2. something that is taught.

3. Often, teachings. doctrines or precepts

There reason I wanted to examine the difference of those words was due to the translation difference between the NIV "leave the elementary teachings" and the ESV "leave the elementary doctrine." This is purely growth in Christ. As new beings in the Lord we begin a children having a child like faith, as we grow in that faith we are also growing according to doctrines and teachings and because of self disipline we are able to grow stronger against the evils that seek to over come us. As we continue to rest solely upon the word of God we should be less likely to back slide into the ways of the old before transformation in Christ. [Lord, you know all my desires of my flesh, Lord I admit they are not always Godly desires that most of the time they are sinful and are desires that may better myself. Lord purge me of any unclean motives that that my desires are only for you alone. I also pray this for my fellow brothers and sisters that they may seek repentance and forgiveness for their ways and be made new in you.]

Next question: Can you lose your salvation: Answer: No. Here is just one of the places where we can look and know that we have full assurance in our salvation. V.4-6 4For it is impossible to restore again to repentance those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6if they then fall away, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt.

Christ came and died once! Only once did God pour out His wrath on His Son and only once did His Son die. When a person falls away it is simply a stumbling block where sin has caught hold and is distracting and lying to that person (if they are enlightened by God) and will later return to God (because of His Grace). That persons sins have already been lifted. Christ died already once and for all He can not die again. Those who think that they can lose their salvation in my mind believe that the first time Christ died was not enough.

Hebrews 6

1Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, 2and of instruction about washings,[a] the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. 3And this we will do if God permits. 4For it is impossible to restore again to repentance those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6if they then fall away, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt. 7For land that has drunk the rain that often falls on it, and produces a crop useful to those for whose sake it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God. 8But if it bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed, and its end is to be burned.

Thats it for now!
Joyfully yours
